New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo soaked in the moments of his emotional return to Wrigley Field for the game against his former team, the Chicago Cubs. The fans covered the whole stadium with cheers for their former star player.

Rizzo even got his favorite walk-up song played before his first at-bat as he received a standing ovation from a crowd of more than 40,000 people. He took off his helmet to show respect to his fans from each of the sections in the stadium.

However, before the Yankees vs. Cubs game, he noted how he wanted to retire in the pinstripes, and even talked about the team’s September plans. The Yanks only have a few more games to solidify their playoff spot before the regular season ends.

I want to soak it all up all weekend. I just hope we win. That’s the biggest thing – September baseball, we’re trying to get on track and get hot.  We’re in a good position.

However, the team’s latest September move to call players from the minor league has greatly dissatisfied both the fans and the critics. They’ve been questioning why the team did not promote Jasson Dominguez rather than Duke Ellis to get a boost in the cutthroat playoff race.

Manager Aaron Boone has also been supporting Alex Verdugo, although his belief in the outfielder is being criticized by many. The team currently stands half a game ahead of their divisional rivals the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East spot.

His whole family was present with him to soak in the moment on the field as Rizzo exclaimed, “It was a great moment and something I’ll remember forever and cherish forever.” Although it was hard to leave the Cubs behind, he has now fully grown up to like the pinstripes.
