Antonio Brown has not played a game in the NFL for over two years. Despite his claims of being a successful businessman and having a thriving rap career, his financial prowess seems to have stalled. The former wideout recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

It was shocking news for fans as Antonio Brown has earned himself an estimated $88 million in career earnings. In the latest announcement made by him via his official media handle, CTESPN, Brown revealed the news of his bankruptcy.

I mean, I'm f**ked up. I just can't comply with debt. You know, it's all about protecting yourself. I'm not broke, but I'm fractured. Things get overhead. Anybody can sue you, take you for whatever you got. At this point, I don't work. I don't make millions of dollars where it's coming in, where I could just force someone that money. So, you know, Chapter 11 is about restructuring the money you're making so you can take care of the debt.

While there is no way to tell what sources of revenue AB has been reliant on since his departure from the NFL, the most obvious avenues would be the earnings from his rap performances and videos. He is also the President of Donda Sports, however; it is unclear if he has received any financial compensation for being in that role.

Antonio Brown owes an estimated $3 million to creditors

It is indeed unfortunate to see Brown in this position. However, when an individual declares Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it does not necessarily mean they have absolutely no assets remaining. From a financial standpoint, when a person declares Chapter 11 bankruptcy, they are opting for a reorganization process that will enable them to keep their business intact and seek more time to pay off the dues to creditors.

For Antonio Brown, most of the money he owes stems from legal issues. He has to pay a moving truck driver an estimated $1.2 million over a lawsuit accusing him of assault and battery. Brown also has money going each month in the form of child support payments.

AB has claimed that he does not own assets more than $50,000. Channing Crowder, one of the hosts of The Pivot Podcast, could not believe this and raised an interesting point. He pointed to Brown’s habit of wearing jewelry and premium chains, which are significantly expensive.

Brown further defended his decision to declare bankruptcy and passed it off as a decision made by him in order to merely restructure his finances and protect his image in the public domain.

Chapter 11 doesn't mean that you're just out of everything. This comes with protecting your legacy, protecting where you've built, and being able to find a solution in regards to settling your debts.
Antonio Brown added

His bankruptcy proceedings are yet to conclude, until they reach an end, there is no guarantee that Brown will be able to reorganize his finances and get his debt in order.

AB continues to be a prime example of a talented athlete who let his fame and prowess get to his head. Had he been playing in the NFL, he could have bagged a contract similar to that of Justin Jefferson. However, he opted to play by his own rules. Unfortunately, he continued to live lavishly post-football as well, which may have resulted in him incurring a lot more expenses than revenue.
