Indian archer Tarundeep Rai has crashed out of the Tokyo Olympics. Rai bowed out of Round of 16 with a shocking loss against Israel’s Itay Shanny as he lost in a shoot-off. The Indian started off poorly to hand Shanny the first set but came back strong. Beginning the second set with a perfect 10, Rai took home the set to equalise.

Tarundeep Rai’s inconsistency cost him as he had to share the third set despite starting strong with a 10. The fourth set was a great fight between the archers as Shanny faltered in the final arrow to concede the set. The neck-to-neck fight ensued which saw Rai falter with an eight as SHanny took the final set to get the match to a shoot-off.

Tarundeep Rai’s inconsistency strikes as he manages a nine. Shally was quick to seize the opportunity as he shot home a perfect 10 to clinch the match and progress to the next round. That is two in a row for Shanny and the Israeli is looking in good shape to pull off yet another upset in the quarterfinals.

India still has hopes in the individual events with Pravin Jadhav, Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari‘s matches to come. Jadhav will be going toe to toe with Russia’s Galsan Bazarzhapov in the Round of 32 while Deepika will be facing Karma of Bhutan on Wednesday. Atanu will be squaring off with Yu-Cheng Deng of Chinese Taipei on Thursday.
