Carlos Alcaraz knows that he needs to improve his serve. He even talked about this at the 2025 Australian Open, where he got knocked out after losing to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. Former ATP pro from France, Arnaud Clement, said that though Alcaraz worked on his serve during the off-season, he has not made any impact with it yet.
One of Alcaraz’s goal this year is to improve his serve because he knows that to remain at the top, constant changes and improvement is needed. He wanted his shots to be more accurate, so he made some tweaks.
His new movement is a bit relaxed as with a looser wrist, he is attempting to improve his timing. Former World No. 10 Clement, however, thinks serve is not Alcaraz’s weapon, and he still needs a lot of refinement to match World No.1 Jannik Sinner and World No.2 Alexander Zverev.
Sinner and Zverev, this year’s Australian Open champion and runner-up, have not signed up for the Rotterdam Open. But they are expected to be back at the Qatar Open.
Carlos Alcaraz loves entertaining fans
After failing to complete the Career Grand Slam at Melbourne Park, Carlos Alcaraz landed in Rotterdam to make his debut at the ATP 500 event. The top seed fended off Botic Van de Zandschulp in three sets in the first round before breezing past Andrea Vavassori to inch closer to his first indoor hard-court title.
The match against Vavassori saw the Spaniard hit a stunning behind-the-back shot, following which he hit a backhand winner. Alcaraz later admitted that such shots come naturally, and it helps him entertain the crowd.
With his victory over the Italian, Alcaraz has reached his fourth indoor quarter-final, also his 42nd tour-level quarterfinal. He is next set to lock horns with compatriot Pedro Martinez. The unseeded 27-year-old beat 5th seed Holger Rune before setting up the clash with the four-time Grand Slam champion.
