Former French tennis ace Arnaud Di Pasquale has praised Jannik Sinner‘s resilience on the court. The Italian has made a strong start in 2024, winning four titles, including his maiden Grand Slam at the Australian Open. His latest triumph at the Halle Open in Germany showed that he has adapted well to different surfaces.
Before this season, Sinner was known to be a hard court player as he had won the majority of his titles on the surface. He hadn’t won a grass court title and his last triumph on clay came in 2022. However, after winning three hard court titles at the start of the season (Australian Open, Rotterdam Open, and Miami Open), the 22-year-old revealed that he was aiming to do well in the clay season.
Although Sinner didn’t manage to win a title on clay, he reached the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters and the French Open. Later at the Halle Open, his first tournament on grass this season, the Italian met heavy hitter Tallon Griekspoor in the opening round. After losing the first set, the 22-year-old rallied back to win the match. His next two matches also ended up being three-setters.
Despite not being known for his prowess on grass, Sinner showed resilience and maturity to reach the final in Germany, where he faced Hubert Hurkacz. He defeated the Polish star 7-6(8) 7-6(2) to win his maiden grass title.
Arnaud Di Pasquale hailed Sinner’s attitude in the Halle Open victory.
Frankly, it’s hell. I personally experienced it very badly when I was a player. That’s why I admire Sinner’s attitude in Halle so much. You can have it sometimes, but you can have it all the time… And on grass, you have to have it all the time. On grass, it’s very hard and very random: there are these huge servers, false bounces, slightly folkloric shots that come out of nowhere. This is proof of a very accomplished mental dimension.

Sinner’s position as one of the favorites to win the Wimbledon Championships has been further strengthened following his Halle win.
Jannik Sinner “looking forward” to Wimbledon title challenge
Jannik Sinner has stated that he was looking forward to challenging for the Wimbledon title, with the tournament set to get underway on July 1. The Italian will arrive in London after an excellent performance that saw him win the Halle Open.
The World No. 1 reached the semifinals of Wimbledon last year, where he lost to eventual runner-up Novak Djokovic in straight sets. With more experience and maturity in his game, he remains confident about going further at the tournament this year.
I’m just looking forward to Wimbledon. Last year I made the semis, I played some good tennis, so let’s see what’s coming this year. I’m more confident for sure.
Jannik Sinner told BBC
A key talking point heading into Wimbledon this year has been the fitness of seven-time champion Djokovic, who is just returning from a knee injury. The Serbian is already at Wimbledon and has been training hard to find his rhythm.
