Injuries are one of the biggest factors that determine how successful a player will be at a particular club. From Ousmane Dembele to Eden Hazard and Neymar Jr., the list of footballers that have had their careers plagued with injuries goes on. Liverpool’s latest signing, Federico Chiesa, also has a complicated history of being fit, with the player missing 80 games since 2021/22.

In a recent interaction with the press, the manager was quizzed about the Italian’s injury record and whether it was overstated. Laughing about the same, Slot criticized the English media for their reporting.

It wouldn't be the first time the English media overexaggerated something, wouldn't it? He had a long-term injury with his ACL but for the rest I don't think he had big injuries.

As of now, Federico Chiesa has been unveiled as a Liverpool player and has also completed his first training session with his new team. The Reds have made the Euro 2020 hero their new No. 14, with the player making no effort to conceal his excitement over a new chapter.

Fans are excited to see how the signing will turn out as Slot also assured that he has many other ‘options’ to fall back on if Chiesa gets injured.

Arne Slot puts full confidence on ‘first’ signing at Liverpool

Even though Liverpool completed the signing of Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili prior to the Chiesa deal, the Valencia keeper won’t be flying to Liverpool until the start of the 2025/26 season. As Liverpool get accustomed to Chiesa’s arrival, manager Arne Slot shared his excitement over his ‘first’ signing.

Slot was quick to rule out any chance of the former Juventus man making his debut for the Reds against Manchester United on Sunday. That being said, there is a chance that the Dutchman will consider playing the Italian if an unexpected injury comes up for one of his players. Besides goals, Slot is more interested in the winning mentality and culture that the 26-year-old brings to the club.

It's really important that the first player you sign shares this culture. Chiesa works very hard and is aggressive off the ball. He can play in so many positions.

Slot also claimed that Chiesa is here to help out in the ‘short-term’, while Mamardashvili has been signed while keeping the future in mind.
