Arsenal in tatters as losses keep mounting and relegation is looking more and more likely
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would have wanted to nod in the ball at the near post in front of the opposition ‘keeper’s goalpost. As Arsenal’s luck would have it, Aubameyang headed in an own goal in when he tried to clear a Burnley corner and doomed Arsenal to yet another loss, this time in front of its fans.
Too many chances created, too less goals
Arsenal created a lot of opportunities in the match against Burnley and yet not one chance could be converted. You can’t blame them for this particular match as Burnley flooded their own box with too many defenders. Arsenal had to make do with their opportunities and in the odd chance they found themselves in the box, Burnley keeper Nick Pope was alert to deny them.
Granit Xhaka in a moment of madness gripped the neck of a Burnley player and pushed him away. Initially a yellow card was awarded by the on-field referee, but a VAR check showed the offence was serious. The yellow card was ruled out and a straight red card was given. Arsenal were reduced to 10 men with 30 minutes to play and it showed as their forays forward considerably lessened after the red card.
Aubameyang hasn’t scored in 8 games while Arsenal have not scored in 6 of the last 8 games they’ve played in the Premier League. It remains to be seen what Mikel Arteta is going to address this concern, among suggestions that Mikel Arteta has lost the dressing room.
