Aryna Sabalenka’s stunning campaign at the 2024 US Open saw her clinch her maiden title in New York. She beat home favorite Jessica Pegula in straight sets in the final on Saturday (September 7) to win her third career Grand Slam.

Sabalenka avenged her loss in last year’s final against Coco Gauff, beating Pegula 7-5, 7-5 under a closed roof at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Besides getting her hands on the ‘beautiful trophy’, the win will see The Belarusian, who has an estimated net worth of $20 million, pocket $3,600,000 in prize money.

Pegula, who was backed by a boisterous home crowd, could not get past the Belarusian in the final hurdle. She will add $1,800,000 in prize money to her family’s 7.7 billion net worth. This represents a one-fifth increase on the $1.5 million last year’s runner-up Sabalenka got.

Besides her $13 million net worth, Pegula also has a huge fortune thanks to her family. She is the daughter of multi-billionaires Terry and Kim Pegula. As of September 2024, her father has an estimated net worth of more than $7 billion.

Meanwhile, losing semifinalists Emma Navarro and Karolina Muchova will each get $1,000,000 for their campaigns at the US Open. While quarterfinalists will each get paid $530,000, players eliminated in the fourth round will be given $325,000. Players who exited in the third, second, and first rounds will each get $215,000, $140,000, and $100,000, respectively.

Aryna Sabalenka makes merry thanks to hefty prize money offered by US Open

In 1973, the US Open became the first of the four Grand Slams to introduce equal prize money for men and women. And in a year that marks the 50th anniversary of that, the tournament has set aside a record pool for prize money.

The organizers announced a record $75 million in prize money for the season’s final Grand Slam. The total purse is 15% higher than it was in 2023. The winners of the women’s and men’s singles draws will each earn $3.6 million, which is a 20% increase from the $3 million that Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff earned for their triumphs in 2023.

This year’s US Open winners, Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner, will earn more than Wimbledon champions Carlos Alcaraz and Barbora Krejcikova, who each took home just over $3.4 million in prize money.

The increase in prize money is not just for the singles category. The men’s and women’s doubles champions will receive $750,000, which is a 7% increase from 2023. The mixed doubles champions will get $200,000, which is 17% more than what last year’s champion earned.
