Aryna Sabalenka finished the 2025 season at the top of the rankings table with four victories. Right after her heartbreaking defeat to Elena Rybakina in the title clash of the WTA Finals, the Belarusian flew off to the Maldives with her boyfriend, Georgios Frangulis.

Sabalenka has been enjoying her off-season and visited Brazil, where she also met Frangulis’ mom, Ana Helena Puccetti. Frangulis’ mom later took to Instagram and penned a heartfelt message about the four-time Grand Slam singles champion.

There are families that are fighting… ours is “puppy” and Aryna is definitely part of our family!

Sabalenka has been dating Frangulis since April 2024. Frangulis is the co-founder of Oakberry, an acai brand that sells bowls and smoothies. He is often seen in the box cheering for her.

This season, Sabalenka suffered her first loss to Madison Keys at the Australian Open, and then Coco Gauff denied her the French Open title. But the 27-year-old was successful in winning the US Open by defeating home favorite Amanda Anisimova. Sabalenka lost and won a WTA 1000 final: Mirra Andreeva defeated her at Indian Wells, and later, Sabalenka defeated Gauff at the Madrid Open.

John Lloyd sends a warning to the ITF after Aryna Sabalenka and other top players’ prize money demands

The top 20 players are demanding a better share of the revenue generated from the Grand Slam events and have even sent a letter twice to the events. Though the Majors are communicating with the players, everything is a bit messy right now, as revealed by Carlos Alcaraz. Former player John Lloyd has sent a warning to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) amidst all this.

Lloyd said that the players are in a position to demand certain things now. He is convinced that if the players stick together, then they can bring changes. And if the Grand Slams don’t listen, then Lloyd said there could be some problems in the future.

Prize money is the same thing. Are we close to a boycott? I don’t think that is going to happen yet. But I do believe it was very interesting when they talked about the prize money situation, and Sabalenka was very much talking about how the Slams need to sit down and be more cooperative with the players.

John Lloyd said on The Inside-In Tennis Podcast

They want the Majors to increase the percentage of the revenue from 16 to 22 percent by 2030. The players are working with Larry Scott as a consultant, who is also a former CEO of the WTA.

I thought it was very interesting that Jannik Sinner also got involved. So when you have the number one players – I know Sinner is number two now – but when you have the top players who are going to bat for the lesser ranked players, that is a very good sign that there is unity in the unions, which, for a while, I don’t think there was. So the ITF better watch out here. I am sensing there is a unity, and without the players, you are done. If they don’t put out with more prize money, which I think they should do, there could be some problems in the future.

John Lloyd added

This year, the singles winner of the US Open received $5 million each, the biggest prize money that was offered in the history of the Grand Slam events. But even more was offered in the year-end championships. Sinner, who remained undefeated, pocketed $5,071,000, while WTA Finals winner Elena Rybakina (defeated Sabalenka in the final), who also remained undefeated, took home $5,235,000.
