Aryna Sabalenka progressed to her third US Open final after earning a comeback victory against home favorite Jessica Pegula, a rematch of the 2024 US Open final. The World No.1 was under pressure to win the clash having lost to three different Americans in the past three Grand Slam tournaments.
Sabalenka began well, breaking Pegula early in the match and silencing the partisan crowd after leading 4-2. But she lost her rhythm, which allowed Pegula to get back into the match, winning four consecutive games that had the crowd on their feet. Sabalenka headed off for a bathroom break after the first set, and when she returned, she showed class in her display.
She began the second set with more aggression on the court, hitting powerful forehands and groundstrokes that Pegula could not contain. The World No.1 made sure to push the fourth seed deep in her baseline as Pegula tried using drop shots towards the end of the second set, but it didn’t work out.
Sabalenka continued in the deciding set like how she did in the second set but was broken early. She recovered in time to fight off three break points in the fifth game and another to lead 4-3 before throwing her racket in frustration, but then cooled off the pressure and continued with the game.
The 27-year-old hit 43 winners and 8 aces, while Pegula failed to keep up with the first-round momentum, hitting 15 unforced errors against 21 winners. Sabalenka then powered a forehand into the corner before roaring with delight and relief to win the pulsating contest 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The World No.1 is seeking to become the first woman since Serena Williams in 2013 and 2014 to defend the US Open singles title. The three-time Grand Slam champion will also be hoping to win her first major title of the season having lost to Madison Keys at the Australian Open final and Coco Gauff in the Roland Garros final.
She has been to seven finals this season, more than any player in the women’s circuit, but has won just three titles. In fact, the last time she won a tour-level title was at the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid in April. The French Open runner-up hopes to win her first title since then while taking her Slam tally to four.
Aryna Sabalenka says she’s determined not to make any errors in her final match against Amanda Anisimova at the US Open
Aryna Sabalenka became the sixth women’s World No.1 to reach three or more Grand Slam finals after Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Martina Hingis, Monica Seles, and Serena Williams. She will now face Amanda Anisimova in the final of the US Open, a rematch of the Wimbledon Championships semi-finals, which she lost 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.

She revealed during her post-match press conference, that what happened during her loss to Coco Gauff in the final of the French Open will not repeat itself. The former Australian Open champion committed 70 unforced errors, the highest in any women’s singles match at the 2025 Roland Garros:
What happened in Paris will not happen here, ever. I learned that lesson and I will never behave like that. That’s not who I am, I was very sensitive. I let it go and let the emotions overpower me, and that’s not me. It will never happen again. I have to trust myself, go for my shots. At Wimbledon, I doubted myself a lot, and that was the main reason for the unforced errors.
Anisimova leads Sabalenka 6-3 in their head-to-head record and won their most recent meeting at Wimbledon. However, Sabalenka has won three of her last five meetings against the 24-year-old ahead of their encounter at the US Open final.
