Aryna Sabalenka has made it clear that she doesn’t believe Jannik Sinner deliberately tried to use the banned anabolic steroid clostebol to enhance his performance. Sabalenka sat for an interview with Piers Morgan, and as expected, she was asked some of the most controversial tennis topics.
Apart from Sabalenka, Nick Kyrgios was also interviewed by the controversial British broadcaster. They were shown a clip of Novak Djokovic‘s remarks regarding Sinner’s doping scandal.
The Serb said Sinner received preferential treatment from the anti-doping agencies because of his high-profile status. Sabalenka, when asked whether she agreed with Djokovic, said she needs to dig deep to answer this question.
We’re not sure what’s actually going on there. I believe in clean sport, and I also believe that everyone has to be treated the same. But at the same time, I don’t believe that there was something there to be honest.
Aryna Sabalenka said
Sabalenka then explained how the two doping cases- Sinner’s and Iga Swiatek‘s- have made her more careful of the things she consumes. Swiatek failed the doping test after consuming contaminated melatonin medication.
I agree that everyone has to be treated the same. There was a similar case with Iga when they just counted her weeks off somehow, like randomly. They’re like, ‘Okay, we count the… was it like in the China swing, and then you can play the Finals, and then we count… we take away a couple of weeks from the next season. ‘
Swiatek tested positive for trimetazidine in August and received a three-week provisional suspension, which did not force her to skip the WTA Finals. But following the year-end championships, the six-time Grand Slam champion served a one-month ban.
Kyrgios was asked about the doping case, and he reiterated that, “just the way the case was handled as a whole, was very much like it wasn’t it wasn’t a good look for the sport.” He said all the information regarding Sinner’s case, including his negotiations with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), needed to be made public.
Kyrgios will be locking horns with Sabalenka in the Battle of the Sexes on December 28 in Dubai. The tournament will be organized by Naomi Osaka‘s agency, Evolve.
This season, while Kyrgios featured in just five tournaments and won just one match, Sabalenka finished the season with four titles from nine finals, including the US Open. Sabalenka also reached the finals of the Australian Open, French Open, and the WTA Finals, losing them to Madison Keys, Coco Gauff, and Elena Rybakina.
Alex de Minaur on Jannik Sinner’s greatest strengths
Jannik Sinner‘s level never wavers, and this is his biggest strength, according to Alex de Minaur. The Aussie pointed out how, in spite of his doping scandal, he was successful in maintaining his concentration, which in turn helped him to win six titles from 10 finals.

Everything happened to Jannik this year, but he reacted. Difficult moments never trouble him. One of his greatest strengths is that his level never oscillates- it’s always constant.
Alex de Minaur told Eurosport IT
De Minaur has met the four-time Grand Slam champion 13 times, losing all. They also clashed four times this year.
De Minaur finished the season with a 56-24 win-loss record, winning one title, at the Citi Open by defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Sinner, on the other hand, lost just six matches, winning 58 times.
He played the final of every Grand Slam event, winning at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, losing at the French Open and the US Open. The 24-year-old served his three-month doping ban and made his comeback at the Italian Open, where Carlos Alcaraz beat him. Four of Sinner’s defeats came at the hands of Alcaraz.
