Ashton Jeanty is impossible to contain. The Utah State Aggies defense found that out when they played against Boise State Broncos on Saturday.
Wearing their throwback jerseys (which looked similar to the NFL’s Denver Broncos’ throwbacks), the surprise package of the season, Boise State got off to an explosive start. They scored on the first dive, and the catalyst was none other than their superstar RB Ashton Jeanty.
The game was barely a minute old when Broncos quarterback Maddux Madsen set up Jeanty from 1st & 10 inside their half. Jeanty made a couple of Utah defenders miss as he ran the length of the field to score a 63-yard touchdown.

Before coming to the game, 20-year-old Jeanty led the NCAAF in both rushing yards (845) and rushing touchdowns (13). The second-best on the list is Iowa Hawkeyes, Kaleb Johnson with 685 yards and 9 touchdowns (played one extra game).
Ashton Jeanty’s stats for the Boise State Broncos in each 2024 season college football game:
- at Georgia Southern (W, 56-45): 20 carries for 267 yards, 13.4 yards per carry, and 6 touchdowns
- at No. 6 Oregon (L, 37-34): 25 carries for 192 yards, 7.7 yards per carry, and 3 touchdowns

Ashton Jeanty’s on the path to breaking the long-standing college football record
Jeanty’s remarkable performances this season have propelled him as one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy alongside Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter (+700), Miami QB Cam Ward (+500), and Alabama QB Jalen Milroe (+200).
According to Sports Illustrated, Jeanty has +1000 odds to win the best college football player award. Since 2010, only two players have won the Heisman Trophy who weren’t quarterbacks (Derrick Henry RB, and DeVonta Smith WR both played for Alabama).
There’s also another big milestone that Ashton Jeanty can reach. He is currently on course to lodge 2500 rushing yards. The record for the most rushing yards in FBS (2628 yards in 1988) to this day belongs to Barry Sanders of the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Jeanty is in his third season with the Boise State Broncos. In 30 games (18 starts), Jeanty has 458 carries for 3013 rushing yards (6.6 yards per carry) and 63 touchdowns. Additionally, the former three-star recruit has 63 receptions for 743 receiving yards (11.8 yards per catch) and 5 touchdowns.
