All over the NBA world, Skip Bayless is known for his loud, unfiltered opinions. With that tradition, following the first-round game between the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bayless put out a popular opinion on Twitter. Dallas fans clearly remember their notable guard, Jalen Brunson’s controversial exit from Mavericks to join the Knicks. Well, times have picked sides since then.

At the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse today, the Knicks-Cavs series opener featured an impressive performance by Jalen Brunson. He contributed 27 points in what turned out to be a low-scoring thriller. For the Cavaliers, Donovan Mitchell led from the front scoring 38 points. The game ended in favor of the Knicks with a score of 101-97.

Referencing the fresh chaos at Mavericks’ front office, Bayless took to Twitter to take a jab at the Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. This rewinds back to the time when Cuban signed All-star Kyrie Irving and an internal fumble on the re-sign contract led to Mavericks bidding goodbye to Brunson. Following Brunson’s commanding performance, Skip Bayless asked Dallas fans if they preferred their current star guard Kyrie Irving or Jalen Brunson.

The current Knicks guard previously played for the Dallas-based franchise alongside Luka Doncic. While his departure disappointed many fans, Dallas’ poor collapse after the midseason trade convinced Doncic himself that they missed Brunson. Popular opinion amongst fans remains that Brunson is a valuable player who would’ve helped Mavericks into this season’s playoffs.

The Mavericks were expected to offer Brunson an extension. However, much to the fans’ disappointment, the guard wasn’t offered one and ended up going into free agency. Although Cuban’s franchise had a chance to get the guard back at that stage, they couldn’t match the bid made by the New York Knicks.

Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks spoke about the noise surrounding Brunson’s exit from Dallas. “The reality is we didn’t have that chance.” he said talking about why they didn’t resign the young guard.

Following Brunson’s playoff performance, the Mavericks fans seem to be even more livid with the organization. Their criticisms for the owner as well as current existing players have been flying in from all over the place. Earlier the Mavericks were penalized $750,000 by the NBA for intentionally losing their last few games in order to finish as one of the bottom 10 teams.

Many fans are criticizing the trade deals made by Dallas to bring in Irving and also believe that the entire situation could’ve been avoided. There would’ve been no need to strategize a bottom 10 finish if Brunson was in the roster as they would then comfortably qualify into the playoffs.

There’s no doubt that the 2022-23 NBA season is going to sting a little for the Mavericks fandom. However, with the off-season coming in early, Doncic and his team will look to take some time off and regroup. They would surely have their preparations in order for the next game and brush this season off their shoulders.
