Aston Martin Pre-Season Testing: What we learnt from Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll’s AMR22 runs in Bahrain

Aston Martin enter into the 2022 season with lots of things to prove following a disappointing 2021 campaign which saw them finish P7 in the constructor’s championship. Sebastian Vettel and Lance stroll seem to warm up from the session Barcelona immediately meant business as soon as the Pre-season test began in Bahrain.

The team faced some reliability issues in Barcelona and with a new focus in mind, Aston Martin seemed to have come better prepared to Bahrian. Sebastian Vettel Lap timings and laps completed

Sebastian Vettel made an impressive recovery after facing a reliability issue seeing him stop off-track during Day 2. The 4-time World Championship Winner only managed to set a personal best of P8 during the first two days of timing. His fastest lap time was a 1:33:821 set on the final day when he finished P10. He set 166 laps across the 3 days of testing.

Lance Stroll lap timings and laps completed

Although Lance Stroll brought out the first red flag of the day when his Aston Martin dumped its aero rakes, the Canadian took P4 in the afternoon session. Stroll set an impressive P3 on day 2 with a time of 1:34:064. The Canadian managed to set a total of 172 laps in Bahrain, 50 more than what he set in Barcelona and 6 more than his teammate Vettel.

Struggles faced by Aston Martin

Aston Martin’s struggled a little due to proposing and the team had suffered some minor technical issues after Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll brought out Red-flags to the session. The team also faced trouble in finding the swiftness and setting an eyebrow-raising time.

Take away for Aston Martin

Aston Martin put in a total of 296 laps in the three-day test in Barcelona which put them at 7 in terms number of laps completed by the whole team in the grid. The team suffered a breakdown which hampered their total at the end of day 3. But in Bahrain, the team put a great display and set 339 laps, 5th most in terms of mileage.

The team made improvements in Aerodynamics and has installed a new wing mirror design to help reinforce the outwash being created by the angular bluff body of the sidepod below. Bahrain hosts the first round of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship, the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 18-20.
