Tokyo Olympics: Ryan Crouser bags second successive gold medal in Men’s Shot Put

Ryan Crouser, one of the greatest track and field athletes, the world has ever witnessed claimed his second successive gold medal at Tokyo Olympics. The American defended his title in Men’s Shot Put, after defeating his opponents by a huge distance.

Ryan Crouser was the certain favorite to claim the gold medal in Tokyo, and as such, the fight was on for the remaining two podium places. Joe Kovacs of USA took the silver medal, to accompany his countryman on the podium. Tom Walsh of New Zealand claimed the bronze medal, as he completed the podium for Men’s Shot Put Finals.

Ryan Crouser registered a throw of 23.30m which set a new Olympic record. On the other hand, Joe Kovacs threw 22.65m, whereas, Tom Walsh ended with his best throw of 22.47m. All the three men bettered their performance in the finals, as Crouser threw just 22.05m in his qualification attempt. Kovacs and Walsh ended securing qualification into the finals, with throws in 21s.

There was a piece of history created in Men’s Shot Put Final, as the three athletes to take the podium in Tokyo, also took the podium at Rio Olympics. Hence, for the first time in Olympic history in any individual event, the podium is exactly the same (same athletes, same spots) for two consecutive Olympic Games.

Ryan Crouser has established himself among the Olympic greats, after his spectacular performance in Tokyo, and given that he is still in his 20s, one can expect the American to go on to win the title in Paris as well.
