Categorized as a Silver Label Road Race by World Athletics, the Barcelona Marathon is renowned for bringing out new talents. The annual race covers a distance of 42.195 km. Covering attractive locations and ensuring a comfortable environment, the marathon is one of the most captivating races in Europe which attracts people from all over the world.

The 42nd edition of the Zurich Maratn de Barcelona took place on Saturday, November 6. The marathon witnessed Spanish marathoner Eric Domingo break the Guinness record for a marathon while pushing a wheelchair. Domingo and his mother scripted history as they made it in 2 hours, 53 minutes, and 28 seconds.

Eric Domingo loved to run from his childhood days and had vowed to get his name along with his mother’s in the history books. Domingo had tried to beat the world record last year at the Seville Marathon. “So I made myself a promise that this record will have the name of my mother and Multiple Sclerosis,” Domingo said.

Domingo’s mother, Silvia, is a patient with multiple sclerosis which causes neurological disability in people. She is delighted to be part of such a great occasion. “Today is the happiest day of my life. We have achieved it and at home. Thank you all,” said Silvia, Domingo’s mother, soon after the Barcelona Marathon.

Domingo’s mother had contracted the Covid-19 virus in August. Fortunately, she recovered and came back stronger to win the marathon. The mother son duo has shown great character and courage during their record breaking performance. Even when life put them through so many trials, they come out stronger everytime with a zeal to succeed.
