Neeraj Chopra created history on the penultimate day of the Tokyo Olympics when he won a historic gold medal in men’s javelin. Chopra not only became the first Indian to win a track and field medal at the Olympics but also became only the second individual gold medallist from India.
His historic gold medal has sparked a revolution in the country as the public has finally begun to shift its focus from cricket, the primary sport in India. Such has been the craze of Neeraj Chopra in the nation that a Durga Puja pandal has been erected somewhere in Jharkhand and features Chopra with his javelin.
Neeraj Chopra’s javelin gets a bid of Rs 1.5 cr
The third round of e-auction of prestigious gifts and mementoes presented to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was held from 17th September to 7th October 2021 through a web portal. While around 1348 mementoes were up for grabs at the e-auction, Neeraj Chopra’s javelin notched up the highest bid.
Chopra’s javelin, which he gifted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi got a bid of Rs 1.5 Crores. The proceeds of the e-auction will go to the Namami Gange Mission, a program aiming to conserve and rejuvenate the lifeline of the holy river Ganga. Neeraj had gifted PM Modi the javelin upon return from Tokyo 2020.
