Wearing her University uniform, Steiner impressed many, as she was quite young and still attending college. Magic Johnson was quick to praise the youngster in a tweet, saying, “Abby Steiner won the 200M race with a world lead and personal best time of 21.77 seconds! Abby’s win is so amazing because she’s still in college at the University of Kentucky.”

. “I think it’s just, the important thing is just maintaining form on the backstretch, and just digging deep to get to that finish line,” Steiner said in her post race interview according to Dispatch. “Everything. You know, coming off a collegiate season, a lot of people want to put limitations on you. Say you’re going to get burned out. But me and my coaches trust the process, and I couldn’t be more excited.”
