Steve Kerr has been very deserving of the reputation he built around his name over the last few years. The Golden State Warriors did have a very successful run after he joined them as head coach in 2014. Being his first ever coaching opportunity his run with them has to be deemed a historic marvel. The Warriors won a championship the same season he joined and went on to win a couple more.

Last night was when they added another championship to their franchise record. The core group led by Stephen Curry managed to retain the top position in the league after suffering with injuries for two straight seasons. The Dubs pushed through against the Boston Celtics up to Game 6 after winning two straight. Curry also was named the Finals MVP for the first time in his career.

Steve Kerr wins his ninth championship with the NBA

Steve Kerr was a player before becoming one of the greatest coaches of all time. He was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 1988 where he played a single season before moving to various other teams. In 1993, Kerr found himself amidst the roster of the greatest team ever, the Chicago Bulls. He would go on to win three titles with besides Michael Jordan while making an appearance as a three-point shooting assassin.

He would later win two more title with the San Antonio Spurs in 1999 and 2003. The former All-American ranked player became minority owner of the team that drafted him when it was purchased by current owner Robert Sarver. In 2007, he became the president of basketball operations and the general manager for Suns. He then decided to step down from his post in 2010 and returned as a commentator. Four years later, Kerr became the head coach of the legendary Warriors trio of Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green who now have four titles.

Magic Johnson names Steve Kerr among his Mount Rushmore of coaches

Steve Kerr had a lot of success during his NBA career as a player and coach. He also became a FIBA World Championship gold medalist in 1986 and helped coach the winners of the Tokyo Olympic Games. He also had the honors of breaking the all-time regular season record made by the Bulls as Golden State went 73-9 by the end of 2016.

Magic Johnson took a moment to appreciate the success Steve accomplished throughout his career so far. He tweeted saying,  “GSW Head Coach Steve Kerr is on my Mount Rushmore of NBA coaches with Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, Red Auerbach and Greg Popovich.”
