Sir Mo Farah has finally called time on his track career, but not without leaving as one of the greatest British athletes of all time. His time on track is over, especially after suffering a shock defeat from Ellis Cross at the in the Vitality London 10,000 race in May. He did not even attempt qualifying for the 2022 World Athletics Championships as he now seems to focus on the long roads ahead- literally.

Farah has made long distance running an interesting watch once again. He is a quadruple gold medallist with a tenacious personality; sweeping the 5000m and 10000m events at the 2012 Olympics and the 2016 Olympics. With over 8 World Championship medals Mo Farah has set his place in the history of long distance track athletics.

Farah is now set to run the London Marathon, as the 39-year-old is expected to stick mainly to roads going forward. While Farah admits he is no longer the athlete he once was, he will not even contemplate retirement before running the London Marathon. “I am getting on a bit,” Farah said. “But do I still have the hunger,” he said according to the Guardian.

“Am I willing to put in the work and the miles? Yes. I’ve been putting in consistent mileage and I still have that fight in me. Until you lose it I don’t think I should think about retiring. As an athlete you love to compete,” he said. “But again you’ve got to be realistic. You’ve done the world champs, you’ve won medals, are you just going there just to make numbers? It’s not easy.” Asking whether this meant his track career was over, Farah was crystal clear about it. “Yeah, hands up! No, I’m not going back to the track. This is it. I love to be competitive with others, it’s the reason I’m not going to the world champs or Europeans.”
