The 2022 Wanda Diamond League at Stockholm’s historic Olympic Stadium has been a treat for the fans over the last couple of days as the athletes light the stage on fire with their performances. Mondo Duplantis was amongst these athletes, who gave a memorable performance for the audience on his home soil, where he now lived. Duplantis has continued to stun the world with his ever growing performances, and this time was no different.

Sweden’s biggest star lived up to his fans at the Bauhaus Galan. Duplantis went ahead and broke the highest ever outdoor vault in history, by clearing a massive height of 6.16m. While he could not conquer his indoor world record of 6.20m, he has certainly managed to sweep records in both categories now.

“It is extra special,” said Duplantis to World Athletics. “I wanted to come here today and do something special. I felt in shape and I have great support here in Stockholm where I live now. It’s my home, so it means extra more.” Duplantis beat silver medallist Chris Nilsen and bronze medallist Thiago Braz, both with 5.93m each. “It’s a really special, kind of a home turf feeling to compete here,” said Duplantis.

“I’ve got a special tie to the stadium. It’s a really beautiful place and it’s a really solid place to jump. This is the time I wanted to be in my best shape. I feel like I am definitely in shape to win the title and maybe do something special in Eugene. It’s hard to describe it, really. You kind of black out when you’re out there. I just remember I was trying to focus really hard on not hitting the bar. When I got over it, I just started to run like an idiot.” Holding 12 indoor records now, Mondo Duplantis has cemented his name as one of the greatest pole vaulters of all time.
