“I wanted to run faster”: Tokyo Olympics 100m Champion Marcell Jacobs back with sub-10s win

Lamont Marcell Jacobs sent waves of shock last year at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, after he captured the elusive gold medal in the men’s 100m sprint- succeeding the legacy of the now retired Usain Bolt. Since then he has been laying quite low, and has not competed in a long time due to several issues plaguing him.
However, Jacobs has finally made his comeback now on the blue track of Savona’s Fontanassa Sports Centre at the World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger. Competing on 18th May, Wednesday, he won the finals in 10.04s after a wind-assisted 9.99s in the heats. Running a 9.95s last year, Jacobs intestinal problems have forced him to withdraw from the Continental Tour Gold meeting in Nairobi earlier this year.
Marcell Jacobs not entirely satisfied with performance despite sub 10 run
“I struggled a bit,” said Marcell Jacobs to worldathletics.org. “I wanted to run faster in the final than I did in the heat. I thought that I could run better technically, especially in the second half of the race. I need some more work in training, but it’s just my first outdoor race of the season. I have time to reach my best form for the World Championships,” added Jacobs. “But my next race, at the Prefontaine Classic, could be more difficult than at the World Championships, as I’ll face seven US sprinters.”
Arthur Cisse from Ivory Coast finished in second place with a time of 10.10s, ahead of former European record-holder Jimmy Vicaut who took the bronze medal in 10.12s. Sri Lanka’s Yupun Abeykoon took fourth place in 10.16 ahead of Italy’s Chituru Ali, who rounded off the top 5.
