Shaili Singh rewrote the U20 long jump national record at the inter-state meet. Shaili jumped 6.48m at the to better the record which stood at 6.30m. The 17 year old is currently the top ranked athlete in the U18 category and is a serious contender for the gold medal at the U20 World Championships.

Shaili earlier broke a 20-year-old youth national record with a 6.19m jump in her first attempt. While she continues to improve, the Olympic qualification mark is still quite a way to go for her. The qualification mark for the Tokyo Olympics was 6.82m, a good 0.40m for the teen athlete.

Shaili Singh hogged the limelight with an impressive outing at the Junior Nationals in 2017. The Uttar Pradesh athlete has been shattering records at a staggering rate ever since and has been tipped by many to be the next Anju Bobby George. At the tender age of 15, she bettered the U18 mark in 2019 while breaking her own U16 record at the Junior Nationals.

Shaili is joint No. 1 in the world under-18 lists for the year with a Chinese and joint 6th in U-20. She reached within world top-100 among seniors with today’s performance. With age on her side and her tremendous temperament, Shaili is all set to become one of the greats of the game and surpass her coach Anju.
