ATP and WTA issue joint statement on postponement of the Roland Garros, say they are working to optimize the calendar

Roland Garros

It’s official now!  In a statement released today the French Tennis Federation has confirmed what has long been the word on the street. The Roland Garros/French Open has been postponed by a week. The tournament will now be held from 24 May to 13 June. This decision by the French tennis authorities so late in the day is sure to cause mayhem in the scheduling of a lot of other tournaments as the tennis calendar for 2021 is choc-a block. How the ATP and WTA deals with it is yet to be seen.

Meanwhile the ATP and WTA also issued a joint statement reiterating what the French Tennis Federation had already stated. They have added that they will be talking to all parties impacted by the decision and will try and optimize the calendar for all parties involved, including the players, tournaments and the fans. Last year the French Open was won by Rafael Nadal in men’s and Iga Swiatek in women’s Singles.
