ATP and WTA Tour: Reports reveal the first Quarter of 2021 Tennis Calendar amidst Australian Open delay

The past tennis season has seen numerous variations due to the pandemic. While a number of events at the ATP Tour and WTA Tour have taken significant measures to conduct their competitions, the coming year stands to see even more changes. 

Due to confirmations regarding the 1st Grand Slam of 2021, i.e, the Australian Open many smaller tournaments are taking the blow as they stand to lose their competitors. Tennis aces that draw viewership are likely to pass on other events in the favour of the maiden Major of the year.

This delay will cause a ripple effect throughout the entirety of the upcoming season. According to reports issued by Tennis Majors, six events will be postponed apart from the Australian Open. This schedule will depend entirely on the dates of the aforementioned Major.

Further, Tennis Australia is thoroughly aiming to coordinate by consulting with the ATP, WTA and the Victoria government to arrive at a conclusion.

Events in the reported ATP and WTA 2021 calendar

The first tournament of the 2021 season will be Delray Beach Open in Florida. It will take place from January 4th to 13th. Parallel to this, Antalya in Turkey will unveil a brand new event. This will last from January 7th to 13th. 

After this, the ATP Cup will take place from February 1st to 7th in Australia. With this, two ATP 250 and two WTA 500 events will begin before the 2021 Australian Open. This will supposedly take place from February 8th to 21st. 

Following the conclusion of the maiden Grand Slam of the year, a WTA 250 event is scheduled to begin. Alongside this, Montpellier in France and Corboda in Argentina will take place from February 22nd to 28th. 

Between March 1st to 7th, tournaments in Rotterdam and Buenos Aires are set to take place. Moreover, events in Doha and Santiago will last from March 8th till 14th. Further along, tournaments in Acapulco and Dubai are scheduled for March 15th to 21st. Miami Masters will take place from March 22nd to April 4th. This event will reportedly be followed by the usual ATP-WTA schedule. 

However, the events which have reportedly been cancelled are the BNP Paribas Open, Pune, New York and Rio de Janeiro.

Even so, the Australian Open can see a further change due to their grip over the virus. They are ensuring to place the health and safety of their citizens atop. Hence, further changes in the aforementioned calendar can be expected.
