Novak Djokovic is not one of those tennis players who plays his tennis and goes home. The 18time Grand Slam Champion, voices his opinion and lets you know if he disagrees with you. The Australian Open Champion has in the past not shied away from even taking on the ATP.
In August 2020, Djokovic resigned as head of the ATP player council before the U.S. Open, along with members Vasek Pospisil, John Isner and Sam Querrey, to form the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA). Djokovic has thereafter heavily criticized the ATP for not taking care of the lower ranked tennis players, during the COVID pandemic, who were unable to make a living because of the cancellation of the tennis tour.
Novak Djokovic against ATP doling out benefits to vaccinated players
Djokovic has once again questioned ATP’s new move of providing benefits and better accommodation to vaccinated tennis players. Djokovic says that he finds the move unnecessary and illogical. Djokovic believes that the ATP will do well to follow the protocols set by the respective governments where the tournament is being played at.
Novak Djokovic said, “ I heard that the players who get vaccinated will get benefits and better accommodation conditions. They won’t have to be in the same bubble as the other guys. This is is an unnecessary and illogical move. The ATP should follow the rules set by the governments.”
Novak Djokovic is currently in Serbia. participating in the Serbian Open 2021, a ATP 250 tournament that is being organized by his brother Djordje.
