Medvedev has had a dream run this season post the lockdown. He has won the Paris Masters, the ATP World tour finals, and finished runners up at the Australian Open 2021. Medvedev went on a 20 match unbeaten run at the start of the year, which was finally ended by Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open Finals.

Medvedev’s meteoric rise has been reflected on the ATP Rankings as well where he is currently at number three and within touching distance of Rafael Nadal at second. Medvedev had a bye in the first round due to his no.1 seeding at the event. In the second round he faced Egor Gerasimov of Belarus whom he beat easily, 6-2 6-4. His opponent in the Quarter Finals is Jannik Sinner. Sinner the highly rated Italian tennis player had a good run at the end of last season.

He won the Sofia Open first and then the Adelaide International, but since then he has faced early exits at both the Australian Open and the  Montpellier Open. Seeded fifth at this year’s competition, he beat Grégoire Barrère in the first round and then got the better of Hugo Gaston in the second round, 6-4 6-1.
