Medvedev has in the past few weeks accomplished what everyone knew would happen eventually, but no one could do it. He broke into the top 2 in ATP Rankings, and he made the event sweeter by winning the Open 13 on the eve of that move to no.2. At the Miami Open Medvedev had a bye in the first round, in the second he beat Lu Yen-hsun, 6-2 6-2.

The third round saw him battle cramps before finally pulling off a three set win over Alexei Popyrin 7-6 6-7 6-4. He overcame American Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round, a 6-4 6-3 victory. His opponent in the Quarter-Finals is Roberto Bautista Agut. Agut is another one of those players on tour who have had a great last 2 months.

He has been a finalist in two ATP events, the Montpellier Open and the Qatar open. In the Miami Open so far he has had a bye in the first round. In the second round he had a walkover win over Lloyd Harris. In the third set he overcame Jan-Lennard Struff in three sets. Against John Isner, Agut saved a match point en route to a three set win, 6-4 4-6 7-6.
