Daniil Medvedev was at the helm of the record-breaking Nitto ATP Finals 2020. The Russian extended his win streak to 10 and went undefeated to earn 1500 points at this tournament.

During the course of this event, the runner-up is presented with 500 points. The semi-finalists and the round-robin winners take away 400 and 200 points respectively.

A look into the Top-5

Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev

Novak Djokovic, who failed to succeed past the Round Robin stage last year, gained 200 points by reaching the semi-finals. He stands atop in the rankings for the 6th time. This has enabled him to tie up Pete Sampras’ prestigious record.

Rafael Nadal (World No.2) and Dominic Thiem (World No.3) retain the same number of points they had last week. The duo produced a similar result at this year’s World Tour Finals.

One of the biggest changes that came about in the last few week’s time is that of the ranking of the World No.4. Medvedev secured the 4th spot, edging past Roger Federer, who has taken a time-out due to injury-trouble.

Major moves in the Top-10

Matteo Berrettini, Diego Schwartzman, Andrey Rublev

The ATP Finals features the 8 highest ranked of the world. Hence, Matteo Berrettini was out of contention and remained at the 10th spot.

Due to Federer’s decision to not play, Diego Schwartzman, who is the World No.9, had the opportunity to compete at his maiden year-end tournament. Inspite of a wondrous season, Schwartzman failed to score a single win in London.

Along with the Argentine, Russia’s Andrey Rublev (World No.8) made his debut at this event and succeeded to add 200 points on his account. He did so after he defeated the U.S Open 2020 champion, Thiem, in straight sets.

Alexander Zverev (World No.7) failed to move past the Round Robin matches. However, two weeks back, the German went on to be the runner-up at the Paris Masters after losing against Medvedev in the finale.

Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas (World No.6) felt the major blow this past month. He dropped out of the top-5 rankings due to Daniil’s master-class in Paris and London respectively. Moreover, he did not succeed to defend his points from last year’s win at the ATP Finals. Rather, he crashed out with having won just one match against Rublev.
