Laslo Djere vs Lorenzo Sonego: Preview
Defending champion Laslo Djere has played some great tennis this past week to reach the Finals of the Sardegna Open once again. Djere already has two ATP Titles on clay, the Rio open in 2019 and the Sardegna Open from last year. In the Semi-finals Djere routed Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-2 6-0 in a match that lasted only 52 minutes. This was a far cry from his match in the Quarter-finals where he was pushed to three sets by Italian teenager Lorenzo Musetti. Djere had to work hard to win the match 6-4 4-6 6-2.
In the Finals, Djere will face Italian Lorenzo Sonego. Sonego, if he wins this, will become the first Italian in 15 years to have won a clay court event in Italy. Sonego, seeded third in this event, was in cruise control in his Semi-final match against Taylor Fritz, until Fritz made an epic comeback in the second. But, eventually Sonego held his nerve to close out the match in three sets 6-4 5-7 6-1.
Laslo Djere vs Lorenzo Sonego: Head-to-Head
The two pliers have met twice on the tour before and both have won a match each, so the head to head is 1-1. The last time they met was in Grand Prix Hassan II. where Djere won in three sets, 6-1 3-6 6-2.
Laslo Djere vs Lorenzo Sonego: Prediction
Djere is extremely consistent on clay. He looks at ease engaging his rivals in long rallies and slowly tiring them out. Sonego with his heavy hitting can win a set but winning the match looks unlikely. Djere, it looks like, is set to win his second title at Sardegna.
Match Prediction: Laslo Djere will beat Lorenzo Sonego in three sets.
