Ausar Thompson and His Twin, Amen’s Billionaire Goal Takes Another Step with $155 Million Contract
Ausar Thompson was the Detroit Pistons' best defender last season, leading the league in steals to propel them to top of the Eastern Conference.

When twins Amen and Ausar Thompson were preparing to enter the NBA, an objectives list they made as children went viral. That list contained specific goals of becoming some of the greatest ever to play basketball and becoming billionaires.
The two are edging towards both their goals. Since the latter is a direct result of the former, the twins have focused on improving every season they have been in the league.
Being in Houston and playing alongside Kevin Durant has its perks. That is why Amen Thompson is more in the news than his twin. The latter plays for the Detroit Pistons, a team that struggled mightily just a few seasons ago.
That, and the Rockets star’s increased role, is why the franchise awarded him a five-year, $208 million contract. While fans were not particularly pleased with the massive sum the Rockets assigned to him, the organization believes in his potential.
The Pistons, on the other hand, are known for the likes of Cade Cunningham, former center Isaiah Stewart, and All-Star center Jalen Duren. The latter’s contract negotiations have seemingly engulfed all Pistons news. However, it seems the franchise felt it was better to reward another young player worthy of an extension.
Per lead NBA insider Shams Charania, the Pistons handed out a five-year, $155 million rookie-scale contract extension. He might earn $10 million less than his twin every year, but earning such a fat extension is a testament to what Ausar Thompson has become in the league.

Now, the 2026 steals leader and his Rockets star brother have become the first twins to earn $100 million contracts in NBA history. It seems their goal to become billionaires is on track.
Amen and Ausar Thompson more than a third of the way to their goal of becoming billionaires
Now that Ausar Thompson has secured a five-year contract, it means he will have the time to develop and establish himself as one of the better players in the league. So will his brother, after also landing the longest rookie extension possible.
Both those contracts combined are worth $363 million. That is more than a third of the way to the twins’ collective goal of becoming billionaires. It means that even if they do not take the next step, by the time their careers are over, they should be able to earn enough to enter that exclusive club.
However, if they do elevate their game, this contract might be irrelevant. With the way the NBA’s salary cap is rising, either of the twins could become billionaires just from NBA contracts.
They are 23 years old, which means that they can earn two major deals before ending their careers. Then they could go on to claim that they joined their idol, LeBron James, as active-athlete billionaires.

All this is before even considering what they could earn from endorsement deals. One of their goals was to get a signature shoe contract. If Ausar Thompson or his twin brother manage to sign a lucrative one, their path to being billionaires could be a lot faster.
Ausar Thompson and Pistons have to do better than last season
One of the reasons the Detroit Pistons secured Ausar Thompson for the next five years is because they believe he is an important part of their young core. They could have had Jaden Ivey, but his interest lies outside of basketball.

Depending on what happens with Jalen Duren’s contract negotiations, the team wants to ensure that those who want to stay are given their due. If Duren does stay, then the center, Thompson, superstar guard Cade Cunningham, and the rest of their young players will make up their go-to attack.
Last season, with fiery center Isaiah Stewart in the lineup, they could not get past the second round. Sure, Cunningham’s collapsed lung may have contributed to it.
But many felt that the young group simply did not have the experience to perform in a playoff environment. The expectation this year will be to get past that stage and reach the Eastern Conference Finals.
