Dominic Thiem took on Dominic Koepfer of Germany in the second round on the third day of the Australian Open 2021. Both the players showed good form, the german was capitalizing on the Austrian’s slow pace initially. However, the Austrian gained his pace late in the first set and carried it through the subsequent sets.

The match was won by Dominic Thiem with a score that read 6-4, 6-0,6-2.

Dominic Thiem defeats Koepfer with ease

The first set began with Koepfer taking the first game. But Thiem quickly made the game even bringing the tally to 1-1. Koepfer then again took the lead with Thiem following up making the tally 2-2. Thiem played catchup till 3-3 and then won two games in succession making it 5-3. Koepfer did his best to get back in the game but it was not enough. The set ended with 6-4.

In the second set, Thiem dominated the first four games with a mere one unforced error making the tally 4-0. Thiem played a brilliant mix of aggressive and defensive play to keep Koepfer at bay. The German made a lot of unforced errors and it eventually cost him the set. The set was won by Thiem with a score of 6-0.

The third match started with Dominic Thiem at his best. He carried his momentum in the last set through to this one. He moved very fast between his volleys covering the court with tremendous speed and preciseness. He kept Koepfer on the run not giving him much room to relax but the German did his best to fight back. However, the set was won by Thiem with a score of 6-2.

In the post match Interview he expressed some excitement about facing Nick Kyrgios next.
