Grigor Dimitrov vs Marin Cilic: Preview

Grigor Dimitrov

Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov has been in the mix for a few years now. The current World No.19 has won 8 titles on tour including the 2017 ATP Finals. He has been as high as No.3 in the world. He played the Murray River Open to begin his 2021 season where he lost to Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the Quarter-Finals in straight sets.

His opponent, Marin Cilic has also been as high as No.3 in the world. The Croat has won as many as 18 titles throughout his career; the last one coming in 2018. Since then the former US Open champion hasn’t been able to regain his lost form. He has dropped in the rankings to No.43 in the world. He had a miserable start to the 2021 season losing in the first round to Jeremy Chardy at the Murray River Open.

Grigor Dimitrov vs Marin Cilic: Prediction

Grigor Dimitrov

This will be a dream first-round match for many. Both Cilic’s and Dimitrov’s game is well suited to hard courts as both have won big titles on hard courts; ATP Finals for Dimitrov while US Open for Cilic.

Dimitrov has been in a better form of late than Cilic. The Croat will have to serve extremely well if he has to give the Bulgarian a fight. If he fails though, expect Dimitrov to run away with the match easily.

Prediction: Dimitrov to win in four sets.
