Australian Open 2021: Novak Djokovic eases past Aslan Karatsev to reach the final


Novak Djokovic and Aslan Karatsev faced off against each other in the semifinals of the Australian Open 2021 in what was the first meeting of both the players. Djokovic was clearly the favorite going into this match and although he faced stiff opposition from Karatsev, he showcased some brilliant tennis to take the match.
The match was won by Novak Djokovic with a score of 6-3,6-4,6-2 .
Novak Djokovic defeats Aslan Karatsev with ease
The first set saw Karatsev showing good resistance as he matched Novak quite well. He was able to hold a tie and even put the world no 1 under pressure at times. But Djokovic was able to take the set with a score of 6-3.
Karatsev was able to take the first game of the second set. But Djokovic was able to take the lead with 3-1. Karatsev was then pushed back to a 5-1 deficit and he did his best to overcome it. However, Djokovic took the set 6-4.
In the third set, Djokovic was high on adrenaline from the last set and took the first game quickly. Karatsev was able to get it to a tie of 2-2 against Djokovic. Djokovic then, went to win four games in a succession and took the set and match 6-2.
In the post-match interview, when asked about his opponent he congratulated Aslan on making it so far in his debut. He further said that recovery was his top priority right now. When asked about his next potential opponent he praised Stefanos Tsitsipas on his performance against Rafael Nadal. He further said that he would be enjoying their match (Tsitsipas vs Daniil Medvedev) and that he had no preferences when it comes to which of the two he wants to face.
