Novak Djokovic

Djokovic has been fighting at three fronts at this year’s Australian Open. Injury, opponents and critics. But as he usually does, the no.1 ranked player in the world has dealt with all of them and how. In the Quarter final encounter against 6th seed Alexander Zverev, Djokovic showed a lot of spirit and fight. After dropping the first set, he came back to take the next three and seal the match.

The score 6-7, 6-2 6-4 7-6. Djokovic will face Russian Aslan Karatsev in the semifinals. World No.114 Karatsev is ‘living the dream’. In the quarter-final encounter against 18th seed Gregor Dimitrov, Karatsev gave a fine account of himself. A cramping Dimitrov couldn’t do much as he saw his first set lead disappear in front of his eyes. Karatsev won in 4 sets 2-6 6-4 6-1 6-2.

Novak Djokovic vs Aslan Karatsev: Prediction

Novak Djokovic

Djokovic will be wary of giant slayer Karatsev. Karatsev has shown exceptional fitness levels in the tournament so far. He has won five setters against much higher ranked opponents.

His most impressive weapon is his backhand, and he can use it to slice or hit power shots at will. Djokovic will be hoping that his injury does not deteriorate further. A fit Djokovic should win this encounter and move into the finals.

Match Prediction:  Djokovic to win in straight sets.
