Day 2 of the Australian Open set the bar high with some fantastic matches in the men’s division. Rafael Nadal the second seed beat Laslo Đjere easily. Seed no.4 the Russian Daniil Medvedev played a fine match defeating Vasek Pospisil. And the day was capped off by the charismatic seed no.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas getting the better of Gilles Simon. 

David Goffin, the seed no. 13, didn’t find the going easy as he lost to Australian Alexei Popyrin. Joining him out of the tournament will be Indian Sumit Nagal, who unfortunately couldn’t make it past the first round. He lost to Lithuania’s Ričardas Berankis. 

Nadal the bull rages on 

Putting all injury concerns to bed, Nadal showed his class as he hammered Laslo Đjere 6-3 6-4 6-1. This was just the kind of start that Nadal needed in pursuit of his 21st Grand Slam.

Daniil Medvedev makes his ambitions crystal clear

Medvedev is here to not make up the numbers, but to challenge for the trophy. The no.4 seed from Russia made that amply clear as he ripped apart the challenges of Canadian Vasek Pospisil 6-2 6-2 6-4. 

Stefanos Tsitsipas oozes class on and off the field 

Tsitsipas the no5 seed won the match against Gilles Simon with a lot of ease and dominance. At only 22, he not only has class but also has experience. He won the match in straight sets 6-1 6-2 6-1.

David Goffin, Sumit Nagal both crash out in the first round 

David Goffin the no.13 seed lost to Australian Alexei Popyrin 6-3 4-6 7-6 6-7 3-6. 

And the lone Indian in the Australian Open Singles Main draw Sumit Nagal tasted defeat at the hands of Ričardas Berankis 2-6 5-7 3-6.
