Jannik Sinner is aiming to win his second consecutive Australian Open title. The Australian Open is Sinner’s first tournament of the season and he has fended off his opponents in the first and second rounds to set up a clash with Marcos Giron.
The unseeded American progressed to the third round of the Australian Open for the first time. But to make it to the fourth round for the first time in Major, he has to overcome a dominant Sinner.

Jannik Sinner finished the 2024 season with eight titles and recorded a 73-6 win-loss record. Two of his trophies were Grand Slam titles, which he lifted at the Australian Open and the US Open. Sinner also finished the season as the No.1 player and took home the ATP Finals title for the first time.
The Italian ace, however, did not have a smooth run at the 2025 Australian Open. He played a pair of tie-breaks in his first-round match against Nicolas Jarry and dropped a set during his second-round match against the local man Tristan Schoolkate.
Marcos Giron, on the other hand, beat Yannick Hanfmann in four sets in the first round before triumphing over Tomas Martin Etcheverry in five sets in the second round.
Before the Australian Open, the World No. 46 participated at the Adelaide International where he reached the quarterfinals after beating Aleksandar Vukic and Denis Shapovalov in the previous rounds. Eventual champion Felix Auger-Aliassime then knocked out Giron in the last eight.

The World No.1 has faced Marcos Giron just once. They met in the second round of the 2023 Shanghai Masters, where Sinner defeated Giron in straight sets.
