Delhi Capitals (DC) have been handed a huge boost in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as all-rounder Axar Patel has recovered from COVID-19 and is available to play. The southpaw had tested positive for the virus on the 3rd of April. He was then in isolation for a period of 20 days while recovering. Having recovered now and completed all quarantine protocols, the 27-year-old has returned to training.

DC are currently in the 3th spot on the points table, having won three matches out of their first four. The Rishabh Pant-led side has continued its good form from last season and despite a few jittery moments here and there and questions over the perfect team combination, DC is in very good stead going into the middle stages of the tournament and are bound to be one of the favourites to make it to the playoffs.

Axar Patel resumed training with DC today and spoke in a release from the franchise about his isolation period and returning to the camp. “Rishabh and Ricky sir have told me to train keeping in mind about how my body is reacting to practice drills in the next two-three days. We are not thinking ahead too much at the moment, we are just focusing on how my body is reacting to training sessions,” he said.

“It has been really great to come out of quarantine after 20 days and meet my teammates. This is the best moment in my life after my Test debut. I was alone in my room for 20 days and I didn’t have anything to do,” he added.

Axar then spoke of how he is training at the moment and said, “I have started batting and bowling practice, but I haven’t pushed too hard during training. I have spoken to the doctors about how I should go about my training, and I am carrying out my practice according to their suggestions.”

DC’s next match is against Sunrisers Hyderabad on the 25th of April.
