Indian men clinched the 2022 Thomas Cup title

The Indian men’s badminton team has defied all odds and clinched the 2022 Thomas Cup title after defeating the defending champions Indonesia in the final round. The Indian shuttlers gave no chance to their opponents as they won 3-0 in the best-of-five finale.

Started by the youngster and World no. 9 Lakshya Sen who outperformed the World No. 5 Anthony Ginting. However, he didn’t start well after conceding an 8-21 defeat in the first round but he came back strong and clinched the subsequent sets 21-17, 21-16 to provide a 1-0 lead to his side.

The first doubles game took place following this where the ace Indian pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy saved 4 match points in an incredible comeback win. The duo was against the formidable pair of Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, who clinched the first set 21-18. But Shetty-Rankireddy bounced back just like Lakshya and won the next two sets 23-21, 21-19.

Lastly, Kidambi Srikanth, who has remained unbeaten in the entire tournament, continued with his excellent form on the ultimate day as well. One of the best Indian badminton players of all time went on to beat the Indonesian ace Jonathan Christie 21-15, 23-21 and register the historic moment in the name of his country.
