Caitlin Clark receives an intruiging offer to participate in a different league alongside the WNBA.

Ice Cube, the co-founder of BIG3, confirmed on Wednesday on X, that the three-on-three league made a “historic” $5 million offer to Iowa women’s basketball sensation Caitlin Clark. She is outrightly expected to be the number one pick in next month’s WNBA draft.
Despite being the prospective number-one pick for the 2024 WNBA draft, Caitlin Clark didn’t stop the intriguing offer from the company co-founded by Ice Cube. According to TMZ, the offer to Clark was for her to take part in eight regular games during the season and a possible two more games in the playoffs. This is expected to bring in a whopping $5 million in a mere 10 appearances and make her basketball’s first-ever $5 million female athlete, another record for the once-in-a-lifetime athlete.
However, the deal was meant to be private, according to the tweet from Ice Cube. He went on to appreciate the generation athlete she is and the success she can bring. He wrote:
We intended the offer to remain private while Caitlin Clark plays for the championship. But I won’t deny what’s now already out there: BIG3 made a historic offer to Caitlin Clark. Why wouldn’t we? Caitlin is a generational athlete who can achieve tremendous success in the BIG3.Ice Cube on X
Clark would, however, not let the news get in the way of distraction as she prepares to lead her college team, the Hawkeyes, in their Sweet 16 clash against Colorado during the weekend. After breaking the NCAA’s all-time scoring list, she hopes to add a national title to her portfolio.
Ice Cube and his contributions to women’s basketball
Ice Cube wants to make Iowa Hawkeye sensation Caitlin Clark the first female basketball player to earn over $5 million with his blockbuster deal with his organization, Big 3. He believes this astronomical offer can help her “make history and break down even more barriers for women athletes.” He further asserted that he wants to create an opportunity where women athletes from the US don’t have to stress by visiting “dismal and dubious foreign countries” just to get a steady source of income.
The Big 3 has made history in the past when they made Nancy Lieberman the first female coach of a men’s pro team, followed by Lisa Leslie. So, it’d be great for Clark as last year, the highest-paid player in the WNBA was Erica Wheeler, who made $242,000.
Moreover, it is “unclear” whether the NBA, which controls the WNBA, would block Clark or any other player from playing in the BIG3. Also, Clark joining the BIG3 wouldn’t necessarily interfere with her WNBA career, as just two games would conflict with the BIG3 schedule.
