With Thiago leaving Munich for Liverpool, there was a hole in the midfield which was filled up with Corentin Tolisso. The move paid up as Tolisso got his name on the scoresheet in the 18th-minute itself to make it 1-0. Followed by Muller’s goal to a wonderful Davies cross, Dortmund made it 2-1 in the 39th-minute.

Erling Haaland fought back to make it 2-2, until finally losing out to a Joshua Kimmich’s wondergoal. Kimmich ran through the defence and had his shot saved by Hitz. However, Kimmich managed to stick his leg out on the rebound and scuffed the ball into the net. Captain Neuer praised the goal, “That was will and talent at the same time. He did not stay on the ground and still chips the ball in. He’s just a good player.”

Bayern Munich’s head coach Hansi Flick commented, “We wanted to win the game, but it was really not so easy. We deserved to lead 2-0 and then made life difficult for ourselves. However, what counts for me is that we won the game and everything else is something that we’ll want to do better on Sunday.”

With many players absent from the treble-winning squad- Thiago, Coutinho and Perisic, it will be difficult for them to remain at the top. They now face Hertha Berlin on Sunday
