Reports about the addition of two new Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises flooded in immediately after the conclusion of its 13th edition. But the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has been mum about the matter. A Cricbuzz report claims that the governing body is set to discuss the matter in its upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM). It is understood that the AGM, which is scheduled on December 24, will see state associations weigh in on the matter.
The report claims a notice sent to the affiliated units by BCCI, signed by secretary Jay Shah, as the source of the information. The notice enlists 23 matters which are to be discussed at the 89th BCCI AGM. It includes the election of the vice president. Mahim Verma‘s resignation from his position earlier this year led to this vacancy. Verma was elected unopposed as the vice president last year.
Major appointments to be locked on in the AGM

“Election of two representatives” to the IPL Governing Council and appointment of two members of the General Body are some of the important matters to be discussed in the meeting. Induction of a representative of the Indian Cricketers’ Association will also be held at the 89th AGM. And appointments for the roles of Ombudsman and Ethics Officer, BCCI’s representative to the ICC, Cricket Committee and Standing Committee, and the Umpires’ Committee will also be finalised.
A discussion on “BCCI’s stand on the inclusion of cricket” in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is yet another big topic on the list. The state representatives will also be updated on the matters of the International Cricket Council, the National Cricket Academy, the T20 World Cup 2021 and India’s Future Tours Program.
