John Cena has long been a guaranteed first-ballot Hall of Famer. With 17 world title wins, two Royal Rumbles, multiple WrestleMania main events, and runs with the United States Championship, his resume is stuffed with gold. Yet one title had always escaped him: the Intercontinental Championship.

But not anymore. On his final Raw appearance in his hometown of Boston, Cena finally captured the one prize he had never held, ending Dominik Mysterio’s 204-day reign and completing his Grand Slam

The moment came after Mysterio made the mistake of interrupting Cena’s farewell address at the TD Garden. ‘Dirty Dom’ barged into the ring, demanding answers from Triple H about Rey Mysterio’s return the week prior. He then took things too far by claiming he could beat John Cena in his prime.

Both Triple H and Cena took offense. This is when the WWE CCO immediately put Mysterio to the test, booking him to defend the Intercontinental Championship on the spot. And after a solid outing, Cena showcased his strength and delivered a decisive Attitude Adjustment for the win.

And it didn’t go unnoticed. Reigning Women’s Intercontinental title holder Becky Lynch reacted to Cena’s historic victory, making his Grand Slam moment feel even bigger. The iconic duo posed for a picture with their respective belts, which the Irishwoman posted on social media later on with a bold caption.

Intercontinental championships. It’s a GOAT thing. We are the greatest wrestlers of all time. It’s not us saying it. Everybody says it. Sports Illustrated says it. Bleacher Report says it. HHH says it.

Apart from Lynch, Cena was also greeted by many other stars in the backstage area, including Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso, Rey Mysterio, and Sheamus. And after this appearance, Cena has three dates left on his retirement tour – next week’s edition of Raw at Madison Square Garden, followed by Survivor Series: WarGames and his final match on December 13.

John Cena’s most iconic moments at the TD Garden in his hometown of Boston

It is safe to say the November 10 edition of Monday Night Raw at the TD Garden will forever stand out for John Cena. After all, the future Hall of Famer finally claimed the one championship that had escaped him his entire career: the Intercontinental title. But this historic win is only the latest chapter in a long line of unforgettable moments he’s created in his hometown arena.

Cena’s history at Boston’s TD Garden reads like a five-part saga, with each moment shaping the next and building the legacy he now celebrates. His story began with heartbreak at SummerSlam 2006. Facing Edge for the WWE Championship under strict rules that threatened the champion with disqualification, Cena fought hard until Lita secretly slipped Edge a pair of brass knuckles.

One illegal strike later, Cena was pinned in front of his own city. It was a painful ending that lingered for years. That early heartbreak made his return in 2008 even sweeter. After months out with a herniated disc, Cena stormed into Survivor Series to challenge Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship.

The TD Garden erupted with every move, and when Cena hit the Attitude Adjustment to capture the title, the same arena that once held bitter memories became the site of a triumphant comeback. But Boston wasn’t done testing him.

At Night of Champions 2012, Cena battled CM Punk in one of their most intense clashes. The match ended in chaos when Cena hit a top-rope German suplex, only for the referee to rule both men’s shoulders down. The result was a draw, Punk kept the championship, and the TD Garden crowd was left stunned once again.

His most significant homecoming moment arrived two years later at Money in the Bank 2014. With Daniel Bryan forced to vacate the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Cena entered a wild eight-man Ladder Match. Bodies flew, ladders crashed, and The Authority tried everything to keep him down.

In the end, Cena powered through, delivering an Attitude Adjustment to Randy Orton onto a ladder before climbing up to secure his 15th world title. And now, with his long-awaited Intercontinental Championship victory, Cena has truly completed the story. Across heartbreak, redemption, and triumph, Cena has built a legacy at the TD Garden that few athletes in any sport can match.
