“Being benched by RCB is part of your success”- Twitterati goes berserk with Devon Conway’s & Finn Allen’s scintillating quickfire vs Australia

Devon Conway and Finn Allen

New Zealand batters Finn Allen and Devon Conway were playing their first T20 World Cup match, but they didn’t feel a bit of pressure from the very start. Their scintillating knocks guided the Kiwis to a competitive total of 200/3 against neighbors Australia on Saturday [October 22] at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney.

Aussie skipper Aaron Finch asked the Kiwis to bat first after winning the toss. The opening duo of Allen and Conway gave a dream start to their innings. They stitched a 56-run partnership until Josh Hazlewood gave a much-desired relief to the Aussies by dismissing Allen.

The destructive Allen was nearing his half-century but when he stepped down the track on the first ball of the fifth over, Hazlewood bowled a yorker, making Allen swing his blade but the ball snuck under the bat and hit the bullseye. Allen departed after a knock of 42 runs off just 16 balls, including five boundaries and three maximums at a high strike rate of 262.50.

The next batter to walk back to the pavilion was Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson. Williamson was taking his time at the crease and couldn’t take his innings further. When he tried for a reverse sweep-which is not in his comfort zone- off Adam Zampa‘s full ball, he missed it, getting it on the pads.

The finger was raised, but the Kiwi skipper took it upstairs. Three red dots were shown on the Ball Tracker and Willaimson had to depart after a slow knock of 23 runs off 23 balls (with a ball and a six).

Glenn Phillips could contribute just 12 runs off 10 balls with two boundaries before Hazlewood banged it hard on the deck around off on the shorter side, making Phillips go for a pull shot, but was cramped for the room. He top-edged it, and the bowler, Hazlewood, nicely pouched it for a return catch.

Jimmy Neesham’s strike rate is the highest in T20I, when he entered the field, he did his work with two sixes, scoring 26 runs off 13 balls. While at the other end, Conway, who was still glued to the crease couldn’t complete his century.

Conway was the highest scorer for his team with his sensational knock of an unbeaten 92 runs off 58 balls, studded with seven fours and two maximums at a strike rate of an impressive 158.62. In the end, the duo of Conway and Neesham took Kiwi’s score to a massive 200/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Among the bowlers, Hazlewood picked up two wickets, while Zampa scalped one. Pat Cummins was a bit expensive, giving 46 runs in his full quota of four overs.
