At UFC Atlanta, former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman shocked everyone by defeating the young and hungry prospect Joaquin Buckley. It was a clinical and calculated performance by Usman, who entered the fight as a massive betting underdog against Buckley. Following that impressive win, Usman called out all his doubters, especially the former welterweight champion Belal Muhammad.

After the fight ended, Muhammad quickly posted a tweet saying he was ready and willing to fight Usman soon. During the post-fight press conference, ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ was asked about Muhammad’s tweet but smartly dodged while mocking ‘Remember The Name.’ As expected, Muhammad didn’t appreciate the jab and fired back with another sharp comment under the viral interview clip.

The rivalry between Usman and Muhammad has been brewing slowly and growing more intense with each passing interaction. A few months ago, Muhammad appeared on the Pound 4 Pound Podcast hosted by Usman and Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo. Surprisingly, the episode was never released, and Muhammad claimed he trash-talked Usman intentionally to break him down emotionally.

According to Cejudo, Usman and Muhammad got into a heated altercation, which was initially started by the ‘Nigerian Nightmare.’ The veteran explained that they had a physical altercation and the camera crew had to step in to stop them.

Till now, Cejudo has not released the footage, which had fans assuming that Usman got severely mocked by Muhammad. After losing his welterweight belt to Jack Della Maddalena, the Palestinian fighter is looking to bounce back and beating Usman could be enough.

On the other hand, Usman is more focused on getting back his lost glory and believes he deserves the next title shot. He already played the role of matchmaker at the press conference in order to handle the chaos at the top of the welterweight division. The former champion also talked about fighting the winner of Islam Makhachev vs. Jack Della Maddalena next.

One of the most highly anticipated future matchups is the UFC welterweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Jack Della Maddalena. After JDM won the welterweight belt at UFC 315, Makhachev quickly vacated his lightweight title to move up divisions. Heading into the fight, the pound-for-pound king is favored, but some analysts still have lingering doubts about his size.

The welterweight division is stacked with dangerous contenders and some experts believe Makhachev might carry a slight size disadvantage. However, after watching the UFC Atlanta fight between Kamaru Usman and Joaquin Buckley, Kevin Holland shared a completely different perspective publicly.

The outspoken fighter recently posted on X, expressing no doubts about Makhachev surviving against top welterweights, and the post quickly went viral.

While most fans supported Holland’s claim, others expressed doubts and questioned Makhachev’s chances against elite welterweights like Usman. According to Usman, he would still welcome a chance to share the octagon with the highly skilled Dagestani wrestler.

Despite his bond with Khabib Nurmagomedov, the former welterweight champion would prioritize this fight’s massive pay-per-view value over personal friendships or past alliances. However, before that potential fight happens, Islam Makhachev must get past Della Maddalena, a serious and well-rounded challenger himself.

JDM recently revealed he planned to train with former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski to gain valuable insight and strategic guidance against Makhachev. It will be fascinating to see if that training and advice prove enough to stop the dominant pound-for-pound king.
