On February 1, WWE will present its annual Royal Rumble PLE, which will kickstart the road to WrestleMania 41. The traditional 30-man Royal Rumble will boast a star-studded field with the likes of John Cena, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, and more. What if Belal Muhammad ends up there too? The UFC Welterweight Champion caught up with Cathy Kelley at UFC 311 in Los Angeles.
Muhammad told his fellow Chicagoan that he’s been wrestling since he was a kid. Implying that he’s ready to take the gauntlet, the 36-year-old MMA fighter affirmed that he needs to declare himself for the Royal Rumble. He then resorted to CM Punk for help and wondered whom they’d need to talk to for making it happen.
In another jolly conversation between Kelly, Belal, and Punk, the Second City Saint joked that Muhammad could enter the Rumble at a randomly-assigned number, which Cathy deemed as a potential surprise entrant. After that, when Belal Muhammad told Punk that he can’t throw him over the top rope, The Best in the World quipped that he wouldn’t promise anything.
The former AEW star was also shown live during the UFC 311 event whilst it was on-air. In the aforementioned chat, the 46-year-old claimed that he was most excited for Jiří Procházka vs. Jamahal Hill and predicted one of them was getting lights out. Punk’s prophecy turned true as the Czech fighter beat Hill via TKO in the 3rd round.
In the main event, lightweight champion Islam Makachev lit up the Intuit Dome to retain his UFC Lightweight title. WWE ran the same building for its Netflix premiere of Raw. That night, CM Punk headlined the show with Seth Rollins. The latter succumbed eventually.
CM Punk racing against the odds for Royal Rumble glory
WWE is pulling out all the stops for this year’s men’s Royal Rumble bout. CM Punk will join one of the most competitive pools of superstars to have ever registered themselves for the match that’ll guarantee a WrestleMania spot.
As already stated above, Roman Reigns and John Cena are in the fray as well. Apart from them, Punk’s archrivals Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins will also pose contention. It seems like if Punk wants to win his first Royal Rumble match, he’d have to do the unthinkable.
Regardless of the outcome, WWE has big plans for The Straight Edge Superstar at WrestleMania. He’s being discussed to take on Reigns. However, that could change if The Rock chimes in, though it’s very unlikely to happen.
