Ben Chilwell stuns on his Premier League debut
Frank Lampard was after the former Leicester City left-back, Ben Chilwell ad finally bought him for £50 million. There were many fans speculating the overpriced tag placed on him, but Chilwell showed his worth on his debut.
Chilwell’s Performance:
Ben Chilwell won the Man of the Match award on his debut and deservingly so. He opened the scoring for The Blues with an emphatic volley in the 18-yard box. The goalkeeper stood no chance as he timed the shot to perfection.
He was deadly while attacking as well. He overlapped brilliantly on the left-wing and showed his stamina as he constantly threatened Crystal Palace’s defence. In the 66th minute, he put a deep cross into the box, which Kurt Zouma finished with a header.
This was also Lampard’s first clean sheet of the season and with Chilwell in the team, it was fitting. “I’ve come here to try and help Chelsea concede fewer goals. If I can chip in with helping to score or creating goals, that’s a positive. But myself coming here, the aim has to be to help the team stop conceding goals,” he said in a Zoom conference on Thursday ahead of the match.
Lampard will be looking to his new signings for help as Ziyech is also returning to training. Pulisic came on at the end as he aims to find his form.
