There have been very few athletes to have left a mark as profound as Ben Roethlisberger. With a career that boasts two Super Bowl championships and six Pro Bowl selections, the legendary quarterback has become synonymous with success on the field. However, his accolades aren’t the first thing he wants to be remembered for.
As he stepped away from gridiron, Roethlisberger is determined to shape how he is remembered– not just as a football icon, but as a “God-fearing person.” However, his path to that realization wasn’t just a last-minute gamble; it was a hard-fought journey with equal contribution of football triumph and spiritual rebirth.
The NFL legend recently faced a profound question: “What do you want in your obituary?” And the former Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t hesitate in his response, revealing the depth of his character and values. In a world often focused on accolades and statistics, Roethlisberger wants to be remembered for his dedication to spiritual beliefs.

Roethlisberger has not only made a name for himself on the field as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL but also has emerged as a role model off the field, particularly in his commitment to faith. His journey to glory has always been inspirational to many, particularly young athletes who look up to him with similar faith in God.
Ben Roethlisberger shares his journey of spiritual awakening
The two-time Super Bowl champion’s journey with faith began in his childhood, growing up in a Christian household where values were instilled early on. However, like many young athletes, his faith faced challenges during his college years at Miami of Ohio and throughout his early years in the NFL, when he rose to fame with Super Bowl XL triumph at the age of 23.

I went through a phase of my life when I wasn’t growing… I wasn’t growing in my faith…I wasn’t as strong a Christian as I wish I would’ve been. It wasn’t until I married Ashley [in 2011] that God became my OC again.
Ben Roethlisberger stated
To feel closer to the almighty, the legend made a pivotal decision to be baptized again– an act he describes as essential for rediscovering his faith. This rededication not only transformed his personal life but also influenced how he approached his role as a father and husband, and that’s what considered his legacy.
