Ben Shelton is not of the opinion that Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are unbeatable. The American also thinks players from his country have the ability to break their dominance in Grand Slam events.
Shelton trails 1-8 in the head-to-head matchups against Sinner, with the lone victory coming in the fourth round of the 2023 Shanghai Masters. This year, they met four times, and in every match, the 24-year-old clinched the win in straight sets. Against Alcaraz, the 23-year-old trails 3-0. This year, they met just once- in the fourth round of the French Open.
I think that we’re [Americans] on the right track. I think that having the density of guys at the top is important. And then it’s inevitable. It’s just going to happen. And we’re slowly getting there. You know, it’s a question that we get asked in media pretty much every single week – at least every single month – and I can’t tell you when it’s going to happen.

Two American players are a part of the top 10 at present. Taylor Fritz stands in the sixth spot while Shelton is in the ninth spot.
We have two guys in the top 10 right now, which hadn’t been the case for a while, and so many young guys coming up that could make the same type of push. So I think just having a number of guys at the top who are confident and ready for their moment to come and to make that push to win a Slam – I think it’s going to happen.
Fritz came close to ending the American men’s Grand Slam titles drought last year. He reached the final of the US Open only to get dismantled by Sinner in straight sets. Shelton is a two-time Grand Slam finalist, reaching the stage at the 2023 US Open and the 2025 Australian Open. It was Sinner who stopped his progression in Melbourne.
Shelton clinched his career’s first Big Title this year when he defeated Karen Khachanov in the Canadian Open final. He also reached the final of the Munich Open, losing the match to Alexander Zverev, and he also made his debut at the ATP Finals. Fritz made three finals, winning titles at the Stuttgart Open and Eastbourne International by defeating Zverev and Jenson Brooksby, and losing the Japan Open to Alcaraz.
Frances Tiafoe on Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz’s dominance
Frances Tiafoe, just like compatriot Ben Shelton, said Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are not unbeatable. He recently sat for an interview with Andy Roddick on his Served podcast, during which Tiafoe said that although it’s tough to beat the World No.1 and World No.2, he cannot call them invincible players.

Now, are they very tough to beat? Absolutely. Hence why they are winning every tournament they mostly enter in, but if you are telling me the whole tour, you have a shot, and then at the end of the week you gotta beat two guys, I’ll take that.
Tiafoe performed poorly this season and failed to reach the semifinals more than once. The one time he played the semi-final, he went on to progress to the championship clash – U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships, where he lost the title to Jenson Brooksby.
Last year as well, he ended the season without a title to his name, losing in the finals of the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships and the Cincinnati Masters. The 27-year-old last won a title at the 2023 Stuttgart Open by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff. Sinner and Alcaraz, on the other hand, clinched a combined 14 titles from 22 finals.
