Bengaluru Fc defeated East Bengal 2-0 thereby keeping their hopes alive in the Hero Indian Super League.  Bengaluru FC halted their eight-game winless streak by beating SC East Bengal and moved into 6th position in the league.

First half goals from Cleiton Silva and a Debjit Majumder own goal helped Bengaluru take a 2-0 lead before the break. The win also marked Naushad Moosa’s first victory as BFC’s interim head coach.

The possession stats were in favour of SCEB in the opening half but they lacked efficiency in the final third. They were not able to muster a single shot on target.

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu took the goal kick and pumped a long ball forward towards Sunil Chhetri, who flicked it towards Silva. Silva took one touch before smashing the ball into the back of the net on the half volley.

Bengaluru doubled their lead on the edge of half time as Parag Srivas forced an own goal from Majumder. Bengaluru FC looked threatening every time they broke forward from counter attacks. East Bengal ended the match with a whopping 72% percent possession but not a single goal effort.

Further, East Bengal coach Robbie Fowler can face a ban of up to 5 games. He allegedly made racist remarks towards the referees. Along with a ban of 5 games he can be fined upto 6 lakh rupees. He made these remarks in their previous drawn fixture against FC Goa.

East Bengal are currently second bottom in the league and have very less chance of making it into Top-4. Bengaluru are 3 points off the semi-finals spot at 6th.
